BJP District Leader Booked in Anantnag for Defrauding Youth of ₹8.25 Lakh Over False Job & Business Promises

SRINAGAR: A senior functionary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been booked by Jammu and Kashmir Police in Anantnag district following serious allegations of fraud and extortion amounting to ₹8.25 lakh.

The legal action follows a formal written complaint lodged by Waheed Ahmad Itoo, a native of Hassan Noor, Aishmuqam, currently residing at the Government Degree College Boys Hostel in Khanabal.

Key Allegation: The accused leveraged his political standing to extract substantial sums under the pretext of providing government employment and commercial clearances during the annual Amarnath Yatra.

According to the complainant, the accused—identified as Aabid Hussain Nengroo, a resident of Krandigam, Bijbehara—misled him into transferring ₹8.25 lakh. Nengroo allegedly claimed he would use his political influence to secure Itoo an appointment as a Special Police Officer (SPO) and obtain official clearance to set up commercial tents in Pahalgam during the pilgrimage season.

Nengroo serves as the BJP’s District General Secretary for Anantnag. A regional BJP spokesperson later acknowledged his affiliation with the political party.
