SRINAGAR: The President of India on Tuesday appointed Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, to discharge the functions of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in addition to his own duties, during the absence on leave of Manoj Sinha, the incumbent LG of J&K.

According to an official communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh will hold the additional charge of Jammu & Kashmir until Manoj Sinha returns from leave. Sinha, who is currently abroad on official leave, is expected to return to the Union Territory on September 17.

Oath Ceremony of the New Chief Justice

The presidential order empowering the LG of Ladakh comes immediately ahead of the crucial swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Vinai Kumar Saxena, who is currently stationed in Srinagar, is scheduled to administer the oath of office to Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.

SKUAST-Kashmir Chosen as Venue Amid Festive Rush

The oath-taking ceremony will take place at the Shalimar Convention Centre of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-Kashmir).

The SKUAST auditorium was selected as the venue because the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) is currently occupied with hosting the inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK).

To ensure seamless security arrangements and unhindered protocol for the high-level judicial event, the SKUAST-Kashmir administration has ordered the temporary suspension of all routine official and academic activities across its main Shalimar campus for the day.
