SRINAGAR: A day after assuming leadership as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, senior IPS officer Sujit Kumar affirmed that counter-terror operations will persist as the primary focus for security forces across the Valley.

Interacting with media personnel near the Hazratbal shrine, the newly appointed Kashmir police chief addressed queries regarding ongoing anti-terror drives, the apprehension of Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and recent arms and ammunition recoveries.

“Counter-terror measures were our primary focus in the past, and they continue to hold top priority moving forward.” — Sujit Kumar, IGP Kashmir

The top officer visited the revered Hazratbal shrine to personally assess on-ground security grids, surveillance mechanisms, and the deployment of Jammu & Kashmir Police alongside paramilitary personnel on the Friday following Eid Milad-Un-Nabi.

Kumar detailed that following his official assumption of charge on Thursday, immediate field visits were initiated to review troop deployments, ensure seamless inter-agency coordination, and inspect security preparedness in high-footfall zones throughout Srinagar.

Reaching out to the local community, the IGP conveyed his greetings to the residents of Kashmir, reiterating that the police force remains committed to serving the public. He further emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining lasting peace and law and order in the region.
