NEW DELHI: In a resounding tribute to the architects of modern India, 82 distinguished educators from every corner of the country were conferred with the prestigious National Teachers’ Awards at a grand ceremonial assembly organized at Vigyan Bhawan on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day. The annual awards, instituted to celebrate unparalleled commitment, innovative pedagogy, and foundational contributions to nation-building, brought together primary educators, vocational instructors, and university academics under a single national canopy.

Conferring the honors, President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu remarked that teaching represents far more than an occupation; it remains a sacred mission for human evolution and character formation. Addressing the gathering of eminent educators, educational administrators, and union dignitaries, the President observed that the benchmark of genuine progress is not merely material advancement, but the nurturing of empathetic, ethical, and socially conscious citizens.

The 82 awardees were selected following an exhaustive, transparent three-stage screening mechanism executed across district, state, and national screening committees. Reflecting the comprehensive mandate of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to energize institutional faculties across sectors, the award scope encompassed three core pillars of Indian learning:

• 50 School Educators: Selected by the Department of School Education & Literacy, representing primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools across 28 states, 3 Union Territories, and autonomous organizations like Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).
• 16 Higher Education Academics: Recognized by the Department of Higher Education for groundbreaking research, community-connected pedagogy, and institutional excellence across polytechnics, central institutions, and state universities.
• 16 Skill Development Instructors: Nominated through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for modernizing technical training, polytechnic skill modules, and hands-on vocational trades.

Each recipient received a silver medal, an official certificate of merit, and a cash award of ₹50,000, along with an invitation to engage in high-level intellectual interactions with top national leadership.

Spotlight on Jammu & Kashmir and Grassroots Trailblazers

Among the distinguished cohort of honorees, Jammu and Kashmir earned national acclaim through Dr. Urfana Amin, Master at Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Soura, Srinagar. Dr. Amin was celebrated for her transformative classroom methods, development of experiential teaching aids, and relentless commitment to student engagement in challenging educational landscapes.

Stories of profound grassroots transformation resonated across the award register. In Chhattisgarh, primary educator K. Sharda was feted for authoring a suite of ten foundational learning books on mathematics and health, including transcribing moral literature into the indigenous Halbi tribal dialect for school children in Bastar. Meanwhile, university professors like Dr. Anitha Suseelan were acknowledged for deploying innovative rural architecture studios that integrate real-world regional problem-solving into university degree programs.

Envisioning Viksit Bharat 2047 Through Learning

Addressing the awardees following the ceremonial proceedings, Union leadership reiterated that teachers serve as the primary catalyst for India’s long-term developmental blueprint, Viksit Bharat 2047.
