India & Denmark Solidify Bilateral Alliance in MSME Growth, Intellectual Property and Innovation Ecosystems
Key institutional engagements in Copenhagen focus on startup clusters, technology transfer, and joint initiatives at the 4th India–Denmark Joint Working Group Meeting.
COPENHAGEN / NEW DELHI: In a decisive step toward fostering technology-driven micro, small, and medium enterprises, India and Denmark successfully convened the 4th Meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) in Copenhagen from August 24 to 28, 2026. The bilateral dialogue focused on building robust frameworks for innovation, intellectual property (IP) protection, and enterprise scaling.
The high-level discussions brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO). Both sides explored strategic mechanisms to accelerate tech commercialisation, industry-academia linkages, and cluster-based growth for grassroots enterprises.
Strategic Exchange and High-Level Representation
The week-long engagement served as a collaborative platform to benchmark policy interventions, facilitate institutional cooperation, and examine cross-border opportunities for entrepreneurs. Deliberations prioritized tech adoption, incubator management, and leveraging IP as a catalyst for industrial competitiveness.

- Indian Delegation: Led by Dr. Rajneesh (Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME), accompanied by Md. Salik Parwaiz (Director), Ms. Bhagya Jagadiswaran (Assistant Director), and Ms. Swapna Vanamala (Faculty Member, ni-msme).
- Diplomatic Representation: Mr. Manish Prabhat (Ambassador of India to Denmark) and Mr. Ashish Arya (Counsellor, Embassy of India, Copenhagen).
- Danish Delegation: Led by Ms. Maria Skou (Deputy Director General, DKPTO), alongside Mr. Mattias Dinnetz (Senior Advisor, International Cooperation, DKPTO) and Ms. Louise Boisen (Counsellor for IPR, Royal Danish Embassy, New Delhi).
Ground-Level Engagements: Innovation Kitchens & Agro Food Clusters
Beyond bilateral boardroom negotiations, the Indian delegation undertook comprehensive field visits to study Denmark’s world-renowned cluster support systems. A key stop was the Aarhus University Innovation “Kitchen” and the Agro Food Park, where officials assessed Nordic mentorship paradigms, tech-hatcheries, and sustainable agri-business clustering.
The delegates also held dedicated policy exchanges with the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs to evaluate business ease, SME credit frameworks, and regional industrial development strategies.
Showcasing Indian MSMEs at Nordic–India Startup Summit 2026
Capitalising on the visit, the Indian delegation actively participated in the premier Nordic–India Startup Summit 2026, organized as part of TechBBQ—the flagship startup conference in Northern Europe. Led by Dr. Rajneesh, the team engaged venture leaders, ecosystem enablers, and European tech innovators, presenting India’s vibrant MSME landscape as an attractive destination for co-innovation and market expansion.

Charting the Road Ahead
The closing sessions of the 4th JWG reviewed past milestones while charting an actionable roadmap for future bilateral initiatives. Both partners reaffirmed their shared commitment to empowering small businesses through knowledge transfer, IP-led commercial development, and sustained institutional networks—reinforcing the broader Indo-Danish Green Strategic and Innovation Partnership.
